Erk to the Diary Room (Episode 16 - The Token Gay In the Village)

I had this blog written in my head early this morning (and I had Ep 17 written in text!) but TTMSG was being a real biatch so it didn't happen. So here we go again.........



BB let Nick into the house on the Golden Key special on Wednesday night. Soon after, Mr HTB asked Nick if he was gay and Nick said that he was. ETB then said that she thought Nick was gay but didn't say anything until Mr HTB did. Then on Up Mike with Late on Wednesday, Mike said that Nick was indeed, gay.


Since BB has started, there has been a few gay people in the house. Just out of the guys, I can think of off the top of my head are Johnny, Nathan (who is now a breakfast radio host in Perth on Nova), David and Rob. Then you have the lesbian and/or bi chicks that they had included so it isn't a new concept of having a gay person in the house. And let's not forget the "Miriam Experiment" post op (or was she pre-op, I can't remember) trans-sexual either.


And in the past, all of those people probably should have been in the house even if they were straight but it could be argued that it was somewhat of a token effort by BB even if the people deserved to be there.


I wonder how many gay people actually do apply and put it on their form or otherwise highlight the fact but don't get in and I wonder how many gay people do apply but say nothing.


However, it appeared as though at the start of this season that there was no obviously gay person in the house although *my* gaydar did go off when Thomas entered the house. Based on Nick's personality so far, I'd have to say that he was put there by BB merely because of his sexuality and not because of his personality (which has been that of a pot plant in my opinion thus far) and that to me smacks of tokenism. And let's get one thing straight (no pun intended) here, despite Gretel and Mike saying so to the contray, Nick has NO hope of winning. Intruders in previous series might have last a couple of weeks but Nick will soon be on the bus to Evictionville, token gay in the village or not.


Is it bad that I think that Nick is the token gay in the village or am I right? Has Nick been put there in a desperate attempt to boost ratings? And will it work? If they are relying on Nick's lack of personality, they are doomed.......


According to BBBBA, there is already talk of having intruders to boost ratings and this is only with one person (KTB) who has been evicted! The good ship BB - is it sinking faster than the Titanic?
